INFLUENCE OF OPTICAL STREAMING TREADMILL WALKING ON GAIT PARAMETERS IN HEALTHY PARTICIPANTS

Siddharth S. Mishra1.

Abstract
Background: Gait plays a vital role in our activities of daily living.
Many neurological and non-neurological conditions have gait as one of the
complication. Optical streaming is a modified and simpler version of virtual
reality that can be used in gait rehabilitation with gait deficits
Objectives: The aim of this study is to find out the influence of optical streaming treadmill walking on gait
parameters in healthy individuals.
Materials and methods: An observational study. 348 healthy participants were included, where all the participants had undergone three phases of the study i.e. normal walking, treadmill walking and optical streaming with treadmill walking.
Video recording with Kinovia software to identify the gait parameter variation in phase II and III whereas self-prepared feedback questionnaire was prepared for influence of optical streaming and comfortness
Results: There is a significant difference in distance covered between phase II
and Phase III. There was no significant difference in gait parameters like stride
lengths, step length and width of Phase II and Phase III. Whereas there was a
positive correlation between Phase II and Phase III step length (p=0.001) and
stride length (p=0.003).
Conclusion: Treadmill walking with optical streaming has a positive influence
on gait and level of comfortness as compare to only Treadmill walking. Also
optical streaming with treadmill walking can be one of the alternative
techniques for gait training.

Key words: Optical Streaming; Treadmill Walking; Gait; Healthy Participants.
